Ghana SPN9/ECTN

What is Ghana SPN9/ECTN?

Ghana SPN9 (Shipper’s Pre-Arrival Notification), commonly referred to in the shipping industry as Ghana ECTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note), is a mandatory cargo declaration and tracking requirement for all sea shipments destined for Ghana. It is issued under the authority of Ghanaian customs to ensure cargo traceability, security, and accurate advance declaration of shipment details prior to arrival. The SPN9 must be obtained before the vessel reaches the port of discharge and must strictly correspond with the Bill of Lading and all commercial documents. Failure to comply with Ghana SPN9 requirements may result in cargo delays, penalties, or clearance issues at destination ports such as Tema and Takoradi.

Obtaining Ghana ECTN through SAMSEA Shipping Services is quick and hassle-free. Once you share the shipment details and required documents, our team performs a thorough verification to ensure compliance with Ghana customs regulations. We then submit the application to the authorized ECTN authority, coordinate payment, and track the approval process. Upon issuance, the Ghana ECTN certificate is shared promptly, allowing your shipment to proceed without delays or penalties.

How long does it take for Ghana ECTN to be approved?

After the Ghana ECTN application is created and edited, the draft certificate must be carefully reviewed and submitted for approval. Upon pre-approval, the assigned ECTN reference number must be endorsed on the Bill of Lading. Subsequently, final approval is required using the original Bill of Lading to complete the process.

It is essential that this procedure is followed strictly and within the prescribed timelines, as any Ghana ECTN certificate that is not fully approved within five (5) days is considered invalid by the Ghanaian authorities and will require re-issuance with a new reference number. Proper coordination and timely submission are therefore critical to avoid delays, additional costs, or compliance issues at the port of destination.
